1 Plug, 10 facts, 20 quotes

First, a quick plug (or plea) for those of you readers that are LAMBs. You probably know it's time again for the LAMMY awards, and I'd appreciate some nominations in these (and whatever other categories) you'd consider me for. Thanks!

Next, I've been tagged by The Movie Ness for the latest meme going around. So here's 10 Movie Facts About Me:

1. When I was growing up, I wanted to be Princess Leia.
2. I'm not big on movie snacks at the theater, but if my friends get popcorn I always end up eating some.
3. I don't remember a time when I hadn't seen classics like Citizen Kane, Singin' in the Rain, Some Like it Hot, etc. I was raised on them.
4. I really hate when people are loud at the theater, talking through a movie. I got mad enough once to tell some people off before moving seats. (At home, though, I don't mind movie talk, as we can always rewind and are often rewatching anyway.)
5. I love spotting character actors from one movie to another. (When I don't know their names, I call them by the previous character name I recognize.) I'm always so pleased to yell out, "Hey, it's so-and-so from whatever-movie!" as if I've just seen an old friend!
6. I still watch my VHS tapes. While I've upgraded a bunch of favorite movies to DVD, I kept the VHS copies and store them in the bedroom (theater 2) for easy viewing.
7. I've never been to a drive-in movie, but I would really like to go. (If only I could find one somewhere!)
8. The only movie I ever went to see by myself  was A.I.
9. I wish my life could be more like a musical.
10. I'm excited (and trying to prepare for disappointment) about the Tron Sequel. I want this shirt to wear when I go see it.

And finally, a little while back (on a blog that no longer seems to exist) I played a game where the readers could guess the source of 20 movie quotes. I found it fun and thought I'd try it here as well. I'd like to say no cheating (as in, no help from google!) and although I can't really enforce it, I trust ya'll. Just comment with your answers for each number and I'll mark them off as they are gotten. (Hint: There's both classics and newer movies represented here.) Have fun!

7 Singin' in the Rain. I was reminded of that when watching first ep with the new Doctor (non-spoilery, I promise). He said "Am I people? Do I even look like people?"

20 One of my top 3 Shakespeare plays - Much Ado About Nothing

Feel like I should know lots more of these but... sleep first.

Number 5 (Random Movie Facts): When I was very young, I was incapable of understanding that Han Solo was not Indiana Jones. Harrison Ford is not a character actor, but still.

I know I've heard a few of those quotes, and it unnerves me not to people to place them. I have to withdraw from the competition because I need to look them up if I want any chance of sleeping tonight.

One day, somehow, life will be like a musical. I have been counting on it far too long for it not to eventually happen.

2 The Maltese Falcon
9 The Apartment
17 Better Off Dead
19 Back to the Future

*not to be able to place them

I was really tired when I wrote "people to place them".

Good guesses so far all!

David, I got what you meant. :-)

Re: Harrison Ford, I viewed him so completely as Han Solo that seeing Indiana Jones was like, why is Han Solo wearing that funny hat?

#6 - Adam's Rib - Mike is telling Pat that she agrees with him that no one has the right to break the law.

#8 - An American In Paris - The Oscar Levant character (can't remember his name) is introducing himself to the camera at the beginning of the film.

#11 - The Lady Eve - Jean and Col. Harrington's first conversation in the film. Jean makes a coarse remark and her father uses those words.

#13 - Take Me Out To The Ballgame - that's hilarious. Jules Munshin says that to Frank Sinatra when Gene Kelly is kissing K.C. Higgins (Esther Williams) after lying to the Sinatra character about how much she likes him.

#15 - I have just heard it but I can't remember...

Java Bean Rush - #6 is indeed Adam's Rib, but the characters are Adam & Amanda Bonner.

And I love how #13 continues: "Then what? I suppose she'll kiss him and he'll come back and kiss me? Well, I know I won't like it!"

Ditto to facts 4, 7 and 9 :)

If life were more like a musical would the entire critical world go topsy-turvy? Would we be complimenting the realism of Singin' in the Rain whilst taking apart a movie like Before Sunrise.

Ooh I think I know one!!

#10 is from Laura, when Dana Andrews is repeating Clifton Webb's testimony to him in a thoroughly disgusted fashion. :)

#3 sounds SO familiar. Is it from Sabrina? I keep imagining Audrey Hepburn saying it.

Love this game!

NoirGirl - #10 is right, #3 is not Sabrina! Nor is it Audrey Hepburn... try imagining a blonde saying it.

You went to see A.I. on your own? Don't think I could handle that, I still shed a tear when I think of it, don't judge me!

NoirGirl said...

Oh I have it!

#3 is from Born Yesterday!! It's Judy Holliday!! I can't believe I couldn't get that on the first try.

Jut in the nick of time, NoirGirl!

I've put up the answers to the ones not gotten. (I was surprised both by what was known and what wasn't!)

Thanks for playing, hope ya'll had fun.

I wish my life were more a musical too. And there is no way Tron Legacy will disappoint. Two words: Jeff Bridges.

Actually, I really enjoy going to movies by myself (and no, I swear I'm not just saying that because I'm single) -- you don't have to worry about anyone talking through the good parts.
